Birch Lake is well known for it’s world-class fishing.

The primary fish available are walleye, northern pike and lake trout.

At the lodge we have a policy of catch and release, and encourage all our guests to release trophy fish safely back into the lake. This ensures that fishing on Birch Lake remains of high quality for years to come.

Birch Lake, in Northwestern Ontario, is located approximately 65 miles northeast of Ear Falls, Ontario.  In size, it is close to 35 miles long, with numerous creeks and streams flowing into it.  The lake is 150 feet at its deepest part; it has a lot of varied structure, which gives excellent habit to the species of fish which are plentiful in the lake: shallow marsh areas, where Northern love to hang out in the spring, rocky bottom areas which Walleye prefer, and very deep cold water where large  Lake Trout thrive.

In the heat of July and August, the many sandy beaches invite you to jump in and cool off.  And at the end of the day, return to camp, cook your fresh catch over a wood fire in the Fish Fry Pit. Then, just before bed,  stroll to  the point and enjoy the vista of a magnificent sunset.

What to bring to Birch Lake Lodge

Gear to bring

  • 2-3 fishing rods: bring the rods appropriate for the type of fishing you would like to do; walleye, northern or lake trout
    • 1 medium action walleye rod: 6-7ft with 8-10 Ib line
    • 1 medium/heavy action northern & trout rod: 6-7ft with 14-17 Ib line
  • Jigs and twisters (variety of colors)
  • Variety of lures
  • Extra fishing line
  • Can pre-order live bait at the lodge
